Document status labels

To understand the status of content in the visual editor and how it relates to content from the content source, you can rely on the visual editor’s document status labels.

Document statuses are shown in the following locations in the visual editor:

Document status labels.

A document refers to a content entry that is in the visual editor with the additional methods and properties that the visual editor provides. A content entry is a generic term for a record in the content source.

# Supported document statuses

The visual editor supports three primary statuses for content that are visible in the visual editor:

  • New: The current version of this document has been created but not yet published and has never been published before.
  • Changed: The current version of this document was previously published but has changes that are not yet published.
  • Published: The current version of this document is live in production.

# Archived or unpublished content

If your content source supports an Archived or Unpublished status for a content entry, then the visual editor will remove this content from the visual editor for you.

To find content with a status of Archived or Unpublished, check your content source. Note that content that is Unpublished is typically a page or component that has been removed from the live site but not deleted.

We recommend checking documentation for your content source to help you understand statuses that your content source uses.

# Status labels

Labels are shown for the new and changed states in most cases to indicate that it includes content not yet published. Documents without a label are assumed to be published, with exceptions noted below.

# Publishing dialog

In the publishing dialog, only new labels are shown. Documents without labels are assumed to be changed, as published documents will never appear.

# Filter by status

In the content tab, documents can be filtered by their status.
