Identity usage and billing

Netlify Identity is deprecated

Netlify Identity service and the underlying GoTrue API are deprecated. While Identity and GoTrue continue to function for sites that currently have them enabled, new Identity or GoTrue configurations are not recommended. While we will keep fixing any major security issues that arise, we will no longer fix bugs in the functionality of Identity or GoTrue.

• For help migrating, existing users can reach out to Support to help you export a list of your users
• For an alternative to Netlify Identity, we suggest using Auth0. Learn more in our Auth0 extension docs.
• For an alternative to GoTrue, we suggest Supabase Auth, which is an actively maintained fork of GoTrue.

You can check your Identity service usage under Project configuration > Identity > Usage. This shows your current usage level and tracks your usage of the following services:

• Active users: This counts only logged-in users that have visited your site during this billing period. The active user limit may vary depending on your registration preferences.
• Branded external OAuth integration: If you enable external provider login, you have the option to use our default configuration, or upgrade levels to customize login using your own app credentials.
• Custom outgoing email address: Identity-generated emails like password resets are sent from no-reply@netlify.com by default. At higher levels, you can send them from an address you own.
• Audit log: At higher levels, you can view and search an activity history for your Identity service.

For paid plans, metered features like your Identity user count are priced based on usage. When usage reaches a level limit, the site will automatically upgrade to the next level or package. Free tier accounts are also metered based on usage and have a limit.

Change levels

Any team member with the ability to change the configuration for your site can also change levels for services on that site.

To do this, go to Project configuration > Identity > Usage, and select Change level. Level fees will be prorated and charged at the end of the billing cycle, to the team’s payment method.
